Q1 2025
Hey, uh, what do you say fellow wine and vinyl lovers? As we’ve all just been through some of the coldest and shortest days of the year, I thought it would be nice to bring you some rays of sunshine. All my fellow Aquarians and Pieces, keep your third eyes open, look to the sky and be free.
The Wines:
White: Clos des Mourres “Pompette Blanc" (France) 2021
Fun in the sun with aromas of pear, apricot, fresh herbs, and white flowers. Ingrid & Jean-Philippe Bouchet cultivate vines on the northwestern slope of the Col du Débat. A natural drainage of the vines occurs thanks to the “Mistral wind” which totally sounds like it could be a Roy Ayers song.
Orange: Les Tètes “Tète Orange" (France) 2022
Chenin Blanc, Muscadelle, Mauzac Rose & Colombard from 25 year old vines in the village of Panzoult near Alexander Calder’s workshop. In their own words, “Les Tètes is about friendship, and wines you drink with friends.” If you’re new to Orange Wine, I promise it isn’t made from oranges, but white grapes that are fermented with the skins on!
Chillable Red: John Almansa “Zou Maï" (France) 2022
100% Cinsault from 35-year-old vines with no added sulphur at bottling. “Zou Mai" translates to “Come on!” which is coincidentally how our boy Roy Ayers kicks off the LP. Unquestionably gulpable, super light in color, with juicy fruit, acidity, and a touch of rainbow peppercorn spice.
The Vinyl:
Roy Ayers Ubiquity “Everybody Loves The Sunshine” (Polydor) 1976
Born in Los Angeles, vibraphonist Roy Ayers later famously lived in Brooklyn but took that California sunshine with him and helped lead jazz into a new era of post-bop, mystical, flower power fusion. He chose “Ubiquity” because it means a state of being everywhere at the same time. The laid-back, sun-kissed grooves combined with Philip Woo’s gangster synthesizer licks make this LP the perfect way to unwind and expand your mind with folks of any Zodiac sign. Until next time...
